Alumni Network
The Alumni page keeps a directory of everyone who's completed offboarding, with LinkedIn nudges and a lightweight rehire pipeline built in. It's available on every plan - there's no upgrade needed to use it.
How alumni profiles are created
An alumni profile is created automatically the moment an offboarding reaches Completed status, pre-filled from the offboarding record: employee name, email, department, role, exit date, and rehire eligibility. If a profile is somehow missing for a completed offboarding, PurpletGo backfills it the next time anyone loads the Alumni page.
At that same moment, PurpletGo emails the departing employee a welcome-to-the-alumni-network message, and - if they already have a LinkedIn URL on file - sends a connection-nudge email to your admins, managers, and HR users right away.
Opt-in
Former employees can opt into the alumni network from the self-service portal, sharing a LinkedIn URL if they'd like. Opting in:
- Marks their profile as Opted In
- Lets HR fill in their LinkedIn URL if it wasn't already on file
- Enables syncing their name and email to Mailchimp, HubSpot, or Salesforce, if your org has one of those connected under Integrations - this only ever happens for alumni who've explicitly opted in
Boomerang candidates
Track former employees who might come back:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| None | No active rehire consideration |
| Interested | Employee has expressed interest in returning |
| In Process | Actively in the rehire pipeline |
| Hired | Successfully rehired |
Update the status (and add notes) from the Boomerang Status control on an alumni card. The Boomerang tab groups candidates by status so you can see who's furthest along.
LinkedIn nudges
Click the send icon on an alumni card to manually re-send a LinkedIn connection nudge to your team - it emails everyone with admin, manager, or HR access a link to the alumni's LinkedIn profile and a suggested message to send. PurpletGo records when the last nudge went out so you don't have to guess. Note that this doesn't send a connection request on LinkedIn itself (their API doesn't support that) - it's a reminder email for your team to act on.
You can also resend the alumni network invite email if the original one didn't land.
Rehire eligibility
Rehire eligibility comes from the offboarding record and shows up on the alumni profile - you can toggle it directly from the alumni card if it needs to change after the fact.
Finding alumni
The Alumni directory has a single search box that matches against name, email, department, and role, plus a Directory/Boomerang tab toggle. There isn't a dedicated filter panel for opted-in status or rehire eligibility today - those show up as summary counts at the top of the page instead.
Permissions
Viewing the alumni directory and boomerang list requires alumni_view (superadmin, admin, HR, and manager by default). Updating boomerang status, rehire eligibility, or sending nudges/invites requires alumni_manage.
